Keep reading to learn about the five things you should do if you have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drmurrayfairfaxva.com\/emergency-dentistry.html\">tooth knocked out<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step #1: Call Your Emergency Dentist&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you get a tooth knocked out, the first thing you should do is call your emergency dentist. They will be able to assess the situation and determine the best course of action. Getting to your dentist\u2019s office within 30 to 60 minutes is your best chance of saving the tooth. Additionally, if the incident occurs after hours, listen to their voicemail. It may give you information on what to do next.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step #2: Find &amp; Clean the Tooth&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, try to find your tooth. If you are able to find it, clean it gently with water. Don\u2019t use a toothbrush or soap, toothpaste, or any harsh cleaners since these can further damage the tooth. You also should not get rid of any tissue stuck on it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step #3: Store the Tooth&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Store the tooth in a clean container full of milk or saliva. This will help to keep it moist. You can also store it between your cheek and your gums. Only try to place it back in the socket if your dentist tells you to do so. Be sure to take the tooth to your emergency dental appointment.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step #4: Clean Your Mouth&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Clean your mouth thoroughly. Be careful when brushing near the affected area. Rinse with water to get rid of leftover debris. If the tooth broke in your mouth and there are still pieces of it left in the socket, use dental wax to cover the sharp edges. This will prevent them from scratching your lips, tongue, or cheeks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step #5: Keep Your Smile Safe&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have gently cleaned your mouth out, it\u2019s important to keep your smile safe. Do not eat anything until after your emergency dental appointment if possible. If you do eat, chew on the other side of your mouth from where the tooth used to be. This will help keep debris out of the socket.
